When I was younger, I had this one children’s book, but I cannot, for the life of me, remember the title or the author. It was about this girl who got into some kind of trouble with a corrupt king or something. Anyway, he exiles her or sends her to the dungeon or something. She was previously given a matryoshka doll (also known as a nesting doll) by someone, who told her to only open it when she was in trouble. While she’s in the dungeon or whatever, she opens it. Inside the doll is another doll with a bear painted on it. Suddenly, a live bear appears to help her and gets her out of prison. They go into the forest and it’s as far as he can take her. She opens the bear doll and inside is a wolf doll, and a wolf appears and takes her across the forest. Can’t remember what happens next, but she opens the wolf doll and a pheonix doll is inside. The pheonix helps her somehow and I think she marries a prince in the end, and becomes queen, and then makes a law to protect all bears, wolves, and pheonixes. Does anyone know the name of the book?
